Old Fashioned
4 mugs flour
2tbsp. incinerating greasepaint
1tsp. swab
mug shortening
1 mug warm water
Mix flour, incinerating greasepaint and swab. Gradationally add in the shortening and water. Add only enough water to make dough stick together. Knead dough until smooth, make into fist- sized balls. Cover them with a kerchief for 10 twinkles also stroke them out into circles about the size of a hotcake. Shindig in hot cuisine oil painting in cast iron skillet until brown on both sides. Drain on paper apkins, serve with jam.
Traditional
1 pkg. dry incentive
3 mugs warm water
1tbsp. swab
1tbsp. sugar
6 mugs flour
2tbsp. oil painting
mug cornmeal
Dissolve incentive in warm water also add swab and sugar. Let stand for 5 twinkles covered with a kerchief. Add flour and oil painting to liquid admixture. Mix and put on floured chuck
board and knead until admixture is smooth. Put dough in a greased coliseum, cover with kerchief and let it rise for11/2 hours. Remove from coliseum and put on chuck
board, knead in the1/2 cornmeal. Make dough into 2 balls rolling each into 12 inch circles1/2 inch thick. Cut into 2 inch places and drop into hot cuisine oil painting.( Works best with cast iron skillet.) Shindig 5 to 6 pieces at a time for only a many moments. Drain on paper kerchief and sprinkle with white powdered sugar.
Blackfeet
4 mugs flour
1Tbsp. pulverized milk
1Tbsp. baking greasepaint
1tsp. swab
mugs warm water
oil painting for frying
Mix all dry constituents completely. Add water. Knead until soft, also set away for one hour. Shape into small balls. Flatten each ball into a circle with or rolling leg or by hand. Shindig in a skillet half-full of oil painting until golden brown on both sides.
Cherokee
1 mug flour
tsp. swab
2tsp. incinerating greasepaint
mug milk
Mix constituents adding further flour if necessary to make a stiff dough. Roll out the dough on a floured board till veritably thin. Cut into strips 2 X 3 elevation and drop in hot cuisine oil painting. Brown on both sides. Serve hot with honey.
Chickasaw
2 mugs sifted flour
tsp. swab
4tsp. incinerating greasepaint
1 egg
mug warm milk
Stir first three constituents also stir in the beaten egg. Add milk to make the dough soft. Roll it out on floured chuck
board, knead smoothly. Roll dough out to1/2 inch thick. Cut into strips 2 X 3 elevation and cut the center. Drop into hot cuisine oil painting and brown on both sides. Serve hot.
Pumpkin Shindig Bread
Add the following to the constituents shown above to make Pumpkin Fry Bread
2 mugs fresh pumpkin or 1- 16oz. can pumpkin
1tbsp. milk or water
mugs brown sugar
tsp. cinnamon
tsp. nutmeg
tsp. vanilla
Drop into hot cuisine oil painting and brown on both sides. Serve hot with adulation or pulverized sugar.
Creek
2 mugs flour
1 mug buttermilk
1tbsp. incinerating greasepaint
tsp. swab
Sift flour, swab and baking greasepaint also add milk and further flour to make dough stiff. Roll out onto floured chuck
board and cut into 4 X 4 places with a tear in the center. Shindig in hot cuisine oil painting until golden brown. Drain on plate with paper apkins.
Navajo# 1
1 C flour
1 t baking greasepaint
C pulverized milk
t swab
warm water
Combine the constituents and sluggishly add enough warm water to form dough. On a smoothly floured face, knead dough until it’s smooth soft and not sticky. Cover and let rest 1 hour. Shape into small balls and stroke into flat circles about1/4-1/2 inch thick. Set away.
In skillet, heat1/2 inch vegetable oil painting. Brown dough circles on each side and drain on paper apkins.
Serve with chile sap and your favorite taco condiments for” Navajo Tacos.”
Navajo# 2
3 mugs unbleached flour, sifted
/ 2 mug dry pulverized milk
1 Tbs. incinerating greasepaint
tsp. swab
mug warm water or milk
2 quarts oil painting for deep frying
Combine the first 5 constituents in a large mixing coliseum and knead until smooth and soft, but not sticky. Depending on the altitude and moisture, you may need to acclimate the liquid or the flour, so go sluggishly and balance consequently. Be careful not to outrun the dough, or it’ll come tough and leathery. Encounter a teaspoon of oil painting over the finished dough and allow it to rest 20 twinkles to 2 hours in a coliseum covered with a damp cloth
