Blooming Onion Bites with Dipping Sauce
Ingredients:
2 large onions
1 ½ cups buttermilk
1 cup flour
½ teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
Oil for frying
Dipping Sauce:
½ cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 teaspoons horseradish
¼ teaspoon paprika
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
⅛ teaspoon black pepper
Directions:
Cut the onions into wedges but keep the base intact so the wedges remain attached.
Soak the onion wedges in buttermilk for 1 hour.
In a separate bowl, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
Remove onion wedges from buttermilk, letting excess drip off.
Dredge the onion wedges in the flour mixture, coating well.
Fry the onion wedges in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
Mix all the dipping sauce ingredients in a bowl until well combined.
Serve the fried onion bites hot with the dipping sauce.
