For the apple pie:
- 5-6 large apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (preferably Granny Smith type)
- 1 cup of sugar
- 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 cups of wheat flour
- 2 teaspoons of baking powder
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup of milk For the custard:
- 2 cups of milk
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch (corn starch) 🔹Instructions🔹
- Apple Pie:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Let rest while you prepare the dough.
- In another bowl, mix the flour and baking powder. Add the melted butter, eggs and milk. Mix well until you get a smooth dough.
- Spread the dough in a greased baking pan.
- Add the apple mixture on top of the dough and distribute evenly.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Custard:
- In a medium saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
- In a separate bowl, mix the egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch until smooth.
- Slowly add the hot milk to the yolk mixture, whisking constantly.
- Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Remove from the heat and add the vanilla extract.
- Serve:
- Serve the apple pie warm with custard on top. You can also chill both and serve them cold if you prefer.
